Taiwan Alford, 37 years old, born August 11, 1984, in Merrillville, Indiana, who gave his life to Christ at an early age, made his transition on December 6, 2021 at Community Hospital, Munster, Indiana. We would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff in neuroscience ICU for the excellent care Tai received.
Tai was a 2002 graduate of Merrillville High School and 2015 graduate of Ivy Tech Community College, with a degree in Industrial Technology. He was employed with TEAM industrial as a heat treatment technician for BP Amoco.
Tai had immense love for people and anyone he met was a friend for life. Tai was a soft spoken, kind soul, who loved heavy metal music and often dressed in that type of attire. One of Taiwan's favorite past times was making music beats on his computer, he did this often as a form of relaxation. Taiwan also loved watching sports. He was an encouraging person who made you feel special. Taiwan's proudest moment was when his only child, Tyla D. Alford was born. She meant the world to him. Taiwan had lots of people who loved and cared for him.
Preceding Taiwan in death were his maternal grandparents, Charlie Sr. and Mildred Bowling; paternal grandfather, James E. Alford, Jr. and numerous other relatives whom he loved and missed dearly.
Taiwan is survived by his parents, Mark and Tuwana Alford, Crown Point, Indiana; paternal grandmother, Mary C. Alford, Gary, Indiana; sister, Taesia C. (Cedric) Gates, Houston, Texas; brother, Mark A. Alford (Natasha), Buford, Georgia; daughter, Tyla D. Alford (mom, Chauntese), Merrillville, Indiana; nephews, Mark B. Alford, Jaxson J. Gates, and Maxwell M. Gates; two aunts; three uncles; and numerous cousins; special friend, Sarita Ayala, Merrillville, Indiana. Taiwan was unapologetically himself, went by the beat of his own drum and was loved by many for it. Tai will be sorely missed.
