Tersenia Eldridge Boone was born May 5, 1936, in Woodlawn Tennessee to the late Alger and Anna Lottie Eldridge (Walker). In June of 1945, Alger and Lottie moved to Gary, Indiana with two young children, Tersenia and Alger, Jr. Tina, as she was known to family and friends, graduated from Froebel High School, historically one of the first integrated northern schools. In 1954, Tina married Charles Boone and that union welcomed four children, Gregory, Jerome, Irene and Rodney. As a young lady, Tina along with her extended family were active members of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. It was Tina that penned the church's motto "The church with the royal welcome" which remained in place for many decades. Tina soon became a Jehovah's Witness. Until suffering from a paralyzing stroke in January 2019, she remained active in expressing her passion for her faith and her family. Tina departed this life on May 29, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alger Eldridge, Cyrus and Lottie Walker; brothers, Alger Eldridge, Jr., and Bobby Joe Walker; sister, Mamie Anderson; sons, Gregory, Jerome, and Rodney Boone. Tina leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Irene Boone Phillips; grandsons, Jerome (Keneica) Moore, Lucas (Rebecca) Phillips, III, Gregory Phillips, Ryan and Kelsie Boone, and Jessie L. Williams; granddaughters, Amanda (Roy) Kelly-Banks, Felicia Hardy, Brianna Wadlington, Yoshanni Ford-Boone, and Kayla Watson; great-grandchildren, Kamarion, Jamirah, Kahmani, Joi and Kennison Moore, Angel, Kiya, Jordan and Amir Banks; siblings, Ethel Peterson, Dorothy Jean Griffin and Cyrus Walker, Jr.; special aunt (like a sister) Minnie Williams; nieces, Audrey (Todd) Childress, Shauna, Debra and Yolanda Anderson, Ami Griffin and Sandra Kelly; nephews, Alger (Yawnita) Eldridge Williams, Anthony (Sheila) Eldridge Williams, Kurtis Griffin, and Walter Peterson; nine great-nieces and nephews; a host of cousins,other relatives and friends. Due to COVID-19, a virtual memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of sending flowers and in light of Tersenia E. Boone's love of family and community, a legacy fund is being established in the memory of Tina and her late sons, Gregory, Jerome and Rodney.
