Valerie Marshall-Speedy

Valerie Bernice Marshall-Speedy was born November 27, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Tommie and Charlise Marshall.  She departed this life on Thursday, January 6, 2022.  

She attended the public schools of Cook County, and was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School.  Valerie was united in matrimony to Mr. Walter C. Speedy in 1979.  Mr Speedy preceded her in death in 1993.

Known affectionately to her closest friends as "Stunky" or "Speedy", she attended Northern Illinois University and later returned to school to earn her degree in Medical Transcription.

Loving, caring, and CRAZY are just a few words to describe our "Firecracker" who loved life to the fullest !!!

In her later years, you could find her watching TV with her grandkids, talking on the phone with her 50+ year friends, or observing the true Sabbath with her True Worship Set-Apart Family.

Valerie leaves to cherish her memory: loving, devoted son, Tyree; special daughter-in-love, Phebe; 3 grands, Akeen, Tyree II, and Tsiyon; and a small army of nieces and nephews, family and dear friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Charlise Marshall; her husband, Walter Speedy; 3 brothers, John, Ardest, and Roland; 2 sisters, Annie and Romeaner; and 1 grand, Creon.

It is safe to say her indomitable spirit will be truly missed.

Visitation will be Monday, January 17, 2022, 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. with Homegoing Services 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408.  Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED BY ALL ATTENDEES VACCINATED OR UNVACCINATED !! SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED !!
