Yvonne Pearl Johnson (nee Hayes), age 87, passed away on April 27, 2020. Born the second oldest of ten children to Lee Andrew and Mary Louise Hayes, on September 17, 1932, in East Chicago, IN. Yvonne was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was long-standing member of Holy Angels Cathedral. Yvonne attended East Chicago Washington, and graduated from Hammond High School. Yvonne served her community as an activist, a political poll watcher, active with St. Marks PTA, St. Marks CYO, Girl Scouts and several other organizations. Yvonne retired from Inland Steel. She really enjoyed playing bingo throughout Northwest Indiana and traveling all over the world. Elko Nevada was one of her frequent trips from Gary-Chicago Airport. Yvonne was very kind, positive and strong in her faith. She also loved helping people. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Andrew and Mary Louise Hayes, son, Travis Buggs Jr., granddaughter, Regina LaVon Lynch, sisters, Mary Louise Parker and Gloria Purnell, Gerald Hayes and Ronald Hayes, sister-in-law, Riitta Hayes. Yvonne is survived by her children, Trina Lynch-Jackson, Reginald (Bernadine) Buggs, Yvette (Kevin) Goode and Etheridge (Latisa) James Johnson III. Her Granddaughter, Markeyta Martin was her caregiver during this time and the Family is forever thankful for her devotion and dedication. Yvonne is also survived by five siblings and their spouses, Martin (Gioesda) Hayes, LaVoyd (Roy) Summerville, Patricia (Richard) Brown, Teresa Samuels, and Carolyn Smith, and brother-in-law, Clem Parker and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Due to COVID-19, there will be a celebration of her life announced at a later date. God bless the Johnson and Hayes families.
